Lahore Electricity Supply Company (LESCO) has suspended two meter readers on the charges of neglecting their duties in Kot Abdul Malik Sub-Dision. The LESCO spokesman told media here Wednesday that both the officials were conniving in the electricity theft while neglecting their duties. As part of its ongoing grand anti-power theft campaign under the supervision of LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider, an inspection team of the company detected two fake power meters in Tayyaba Colony, he said and added that both the meters were purchased from the market. After detecting facilitation to electricity thieves, the company suspended the relevant meter reader and initiated departmental inquiry against him. In the same colony, the inspection also found another power meter that was reversed to cheat the LESCO.
The company also suspended the meter reader concerned and is taking departmental action against him. Meanwhile, another inspection team conducted a search operation in Burj Attari area and checked 105 connections out of which four connections were found to be stealing power from the direct supply of LESCO. All four connections have been disconnected and cases have been registered against the accused while four accused have also been arrested by the area police.
On the 47th day of the grand anti-power theft operation, Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) arrested 36 electricity thieves by the police and detected pilferage on 250 connections in all five districts (Lahore, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, Kasur and Okara), here on Wednesday. According to a spokesperson ,He added that First Information Report (FIR) applications against 247 electricity thieves have been submitted in the respective police stations, out of which 163 FIRs have been registered while 36 accused have been arrested.
Among detected connections were one industrial, two agricultural, 12 commercial and 235 domestic categories and supply to all of them have been disconnected, he said, asserting that all the electricity pilferers have also been charged a total of 305,051 detection units worth Rs 14.408 million.
Sharing further details, the spokesman said that 10,090 units worth Rs 504,500 were charged as a detection bill to a connection in an area along Eastern Bypass Gujjarpura; detection bill amounting to Rs 1.509 million against 22,241 units to owner of Family Inn hotel pilfering electricity; Rs 300,300 detection bill against 1,740 units to another power pilferer in Ram Kot area of Raiwind city and Rs 300,000 detection bill against 5,825 units to a customer in GawalMandi area of Anarkali Sub-Division. The spokesman mentioned that during 47 days of anti-power theft operations, the LESCO detected pilferage on 20,911 connections and submitted 20,699 FIRs applications out of which 19,948 FIRs have been registered against power pilferers, while 6,942 accused have been arrested.
He added that all the electricity pilferers have so far been charged an accumulative bill of Rs 1,808,715,646 against 41,586,255 detection units.
It should be noted that operations against electricity thieves were being conducted as per the instructions of the Ministry of Energy (Power Division) and the LESCO Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Engineer Shahid Haider is personally supervising these operations.
