ISLAMABAD – Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) slammed protected consumers on the pretext of ‘pro-rata consumption’, burdening them with inflated bills.

Amid a big surge in complaints by protective consumers – consuming under 200 units over inflated power bills, FIA launched inquiry into overbilling, and summoned Shahid Haider, the Chief of Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO), along with the director of customer services, director of IT at LESCO, and officials from the energy ministry for an investigation into high electricity billing.

Federal Investigation Agency FIA got directions to present findings on the overbilling issue to the Prime Minister within 24 hours.

PM Shehbaz Sharif instructed FIA to launch an inquiry against officials of power distribution companies who have been accused of overcharging consumers on their power bills.

During a meeting on Power Sector reforms and solarization, PM Shehbaz emphasized the immediate suspension of such officials and stressed the need to hold accountable those responsible for unjustly inflating electricity bills, particularly affecting consumers using less than 200 units per month.
