MULTAN – A request to follow restaurant rules turned into a violent assault at a Subway outlet in Multan, after a staff member was reportedly attacked for asking customers not to consume food brought from outside the restaurant.
The incident took place at the WAPDA Town branch, and ignited widespread outrage after CCTV footage of the assault went viral on social media, with many calling for strict legal action against those involved and greater protection for frontline service workers.
The restaurant chain confirmed that the matter has been referred to the relevant law enforcement authorities and that legal proceedings have been initiated against those allegedly involved. Subway Pakistan also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for both employees and customers.

Fazil said he was carrying out his duties when a group of customers entered the outlet with samosas purchased from outside. According to him, Subway’s standard operating procedures (SOPs) prohibit customers from eating outside food inside the restaurant.
He said another employee initially informed the group about the policy, but the request was allegedly ignored. As the senior staff member on duty, he then approached the customers himself and politely asked them to comply with the restaurant’s rules. He said he even requested that if they had already started eating, they should finish quickly so the outlet’s policy could be observed without inconveniencing other customers. However, Fazil alleged that the situation escalated without warning.
According to Fazil, the customer allegedly followed him, slapped him again, grabbed him by the neck and dragged him across the restaurant. He further claimed that three men then assaulted him for nearly five to seven minutes, repeatedly punching and slapping him on the face, back and other parts of his body.
The alleged assault was captured on the outlet’s CCTV cameras, and the footage has since spread rapidly across social media, prompting widespread condemnation from the public. Many users have demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible and stronger legal safeguards for employees working in Pakistan’s hospitality and service sectors.
As the incident sparked widespread criticism, Subway Pakistan issued an official statement strongly condemning the alleged assault. The company said the safety, dignity and respect of its employees remain its highest priority and expressed deep concern over what happened at its Multan outlet.
