ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development (OPHRD) has clarified that there is no restriction on skilled labour for UAE work visa.

The OPHRD secretary stated this while briefing the Senate Standing Committee on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development. However, he revealed that there is a decline in demand of unskilled labour, a potential reason for decrease in issuance of visas.

He said every country imports workforces in line with its demand, adding that around 700,000 Pakistan nationals went abroad during this year.

The meeting was also informed that the UAE has made it mandatory for Pakistani job seekers to submit police character certificate while applying for the work visa.

The secretary emphasised that there is need to focus on sending more skilled workers to foreign countries.

Meanwhile, Committee Chairman Senator Zeeshan Khanzada has asked the ministry to take steps to resolve the issues of public on priority basis.

Earlier, several reports claimed restrictions in UAE visa issuance due to many reasons but United Arab Emirates (UAE) trashed rumors suggesting Visa hurdls for Pakistanis.

UAE Consul General Dr. Bakheet Remeithi termed this development ‘fabricated’, saying these rumors have circulated for the past two years without any basis.

Remeithi stressed applying for visas through official channels and encouraged applicants to visit UAE visa centers directly for processing. He also reaffirmed the strong relationship of Arab nation with Islamabad, citing the country’s leadership is committed to supporting Pakistan and its people.

In another positive development, UAE Consul General hinted at significant investment opportunities expected to emerge in near future. This statement follows a recent denial by Pakistan’s Embassy, which also rejected media reports alleging that UAE government had proposed visa restrictions for Pakistani nationals during a cabinet meeting. Both the UAE and Pakistani governments have categorically denied these claims.
