The University of Okara’s Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture organized a seminar on the ‘Latest Trends of Research on Fisheries’ where Dr Mudas-sar Shahzad, Assistant Professor at University of Education Lahore, Dr Anser Mahmood Chatha, Director Research & Training at Punjab Fisheries Department and Dr Khalid Abbas Associate Profes-sor at University of Agriculture Faisalabad delivered lectures to the faculty members and students of the Faculty of Life Sciences.

In his opening note, Dr Sjjad Sarwar, In-Charge Department of Fisheries & Aquaculture told that research in fisheries was largely of an applied nature aimed at solving practical problems of fish produc-tion and increasing productivity. “We want to engage our students in practical work so that they provide viable solutions to the fisheries industry on the basis of their research.”

Nida Ismat, Lecturer Fisheries and Aquaculture at the UO, while addressing to the seminar, said, “Sci-entists are required to participate in productive labour with fish farmers and other workers so that they will learn at first hand the problems faced in production in the field and share experiences with the ordinary worker. We are preparing our students to serve this purpose.”

Dr Muhammad Wajid, Chairman Faculty of Life Sciences, also addressed the seminar. An awareness walk was also conducted at the campus after the seminar.
