Landslide kills seven of a family in Rawalakot

Seven persons of a family including five children were killed in a landslide incident at Hujra Pothi Chhaprian area of Hajeera in Rawalakot district on Saturday. The landslide took place due to heavy rain and destroyed four houses. Six people were also injured in the incident.
Those who lost their lives in the incident included; Sobia, 40, her daughters Tasmiya, 11, Alisha, 9, Asma, 7, Mahjabeen, 4, Shoaib Maqsood 18, Rufi, a one-and-a-half years old.
Local sources told our correspondent that after successful rescue operation of Pak Army, Rescue 1122, district administration and local people, all seven dead bodies and an injured woman were recovered.
“Intermittent rainfall in the area was one of the major obstacles in the rescue work amid fears of more incidents of landslide”, Muhammad Raffique, a local told. Taking notice of the incident, Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan directed district administration and State Disaster Management Authority to take immediate measures for the proper rehabilitation of the land-sliding affectees.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Prime Minister further directed the authorities to construct temporary residential shelters besides providing basic necessities like food and non-food items to the affected families at the earliest.
It is pertinent to mention here that at least 43 people had died and more than 20 others wounded in rain-related incidents in Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Jhelum Valley, Poonch and Haveli districts this year.
