Lahore leads the list of the world’s most polluted cities, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) hits the hazardous level of 398.
Persistent dryness and stable atmospheric conditions have caused a gradual increase in the pollution level in the plains. Rains are expected in the western and northern parts of Pakistan during the weekend, which will likely provide some respite from the prevailing harsh weather conditions.
According to the data collected from the IQ Air website on Friday at 09:24 pm, Vietnam’s Hanoi is at the second spot with an AQI of 332 (hazardous), closely followed by India’s Delhi with an AQI of 330 (hazardous).
Kuwait City (Kuwait) and Kolkata (India) ranked fourth with an AQI of 221 (very unhealthy), followed by Dhaka (Bangladesh) with an AQI of 209 (very unhealthy).
Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) ranked seventh with an AQI of 166 (unhealthy), closely followed by Sarajevo (Bosnia Herzegovina) with an AQI of 162 (unhealthy). Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan) and Chongqing (China) are ranked ninth and tenth with an AQI of 149 (unhealthy for sensitive groups).
AQI of the top three cities is hazardous, that of the fourth to sixth cities is very unhealthy, and that of the seventh and eighth cities is unhealthy, while that of the ninth to 20th cities is unhealthy for sensitive groups.
