Lahore tops rankings, Karachi world’s eighth most polluted city

Lahore tops the rankings of the world’s most polluted cities, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) reaching a hazardous level of 419 on Monday.

According to data collected from the IQ Air website on Monday at 2:55 pm, Delhi (India) is in second place with an AQI of 364 (hazardous), followed by Cairo (Egypt) with an AQI of 286 (very unhealthy).

Kabul (Afghanistan) ranked fourth with an AQI of 279 (very unhealthy), followed by Kolkata (India) with an AQI of 236 (very unhealthy).

Dhaka (Bangladesh) ranked sixth with an AQI of 191, followed by Hanoi (Vietnam) with an AQI of 179 (unhealthy).

Karachi (Pakistan) is ranked eighth with an AQI of 166, closely followed by Seoul (South Korea) with an AQI of 165 (unhealthy). Kampala is ranked 10th with an AQI of 163 (unhealthy).

AQI of the two top cities (Lahore, Delhi) is hazardous, that of the third to fifth (Cairo, Kabul and Kolkata) is very unhealthy, and that of the sixth to 16th cities is unhealthy.

Lahore and other major cities in Pakistan are battling hazardous weather conditions due to the persistent dryness and stable environmental conditions. The citizens are likely to get much-needed respite from the harsh weather conditions due to rainfall of varying intensities during the ongoing week.
