Lahore, Punjab weather update; rains, hailstorm likely from Saturday

LAHORE – Moderate to heavy rains and hailstorm are expected in Lahore and parts of Punjab from Saturday, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Thursday. The wet spell will continue intermittently till February 21.

According to the synoptic situation, a strong westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of Pakistan on Saturday night. It may grip upper/central parts of the country on February 18.

Under the influence of this weather system, moderate to heavy rain-wind/thunderstorm with snowfall over the hills is expected in Murree, Galyat, Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Kasur from Saturday, February 17-21.

Light to moderate rain-wind/thunderstorm is likely in Multan, Bhakkar, Kot Addu, Layyah, Rajanpur and Dera Ghazi Khan on February 18-19. Isolated hailstorm may also occur during the period.

Shallow fog is likely at few places in Narowal, Sheikhupura and Sialkot during morning and night hours.

Lahore’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 07-09 degrees Celsius on Friday and 08-10 C on Saturday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in Lahore and parts of the province during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in upper districts.

Murree remained the coldest place in the province where mercury dropped to freezing point. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 62 per cent.

In Lahore, minimum temperature was recorded at 08 C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 80 per cent.
