LAHORE – Intermittent monsoon rains with isolated heavy falls are predicted in Lahore and parts of Punjab on Sunday night and Monday.
Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), low pressure in the lower tropospheric level lies over upper Sindh and surroundings. Strong Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea penetrate the southern & eastern parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave prevails over northwestern parts of the country.
Under these weather conditions, monsoon rains are predicted in Multan, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Taunsa, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Muzaffargarh, Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Khushab and Jhelum on Sunday night. Heavy falls are predicted at isolated places in southern districts.
On Monday, more intermittent monsoon rains are predicted in Sialkot, Narowal, Gujarat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Kasur, Lahore, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum Taunsa, Leh, Dera Ghazi Khan and Khushab. Heavy falls may also occur at isolated places in northeastern districts.
Torrential rains will likely generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams/hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan, Koh Sulaiman. Downpours may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of south Punjab. Landslides may disrupt traffic in the vulnerable hilly areas of Murree and Galliyat.
Lahore’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 34-36°C on Monday and Tuesday.
