MUMBAI – Disturbing cases of rape raised serious concerns about women’s safety, and the latest victim is a lady doctor, who ended her life after being sexually assaulted an on-duty police officer.
The incident reported from Maharashtra, wherea 28-year-old doctor, working at a state-run hospital, was found dead in hotel room in Phaltan, allegedly ending her life after months of sexual exploitation and mental torture.
According to police, the young doctor had been suffering in silence for five months. A chilling note written on her hand accuses police officer Gopal Badane of repeatedly assaulting her and Prashant Banker, her landlord’s son, of relentless mental harassment.
Authorities rolled out high-level investigation and accused has been suspended. Amid probe accused remained at large while suicide note is being examined by forensic experts to confirm its authenticity.
The tragedy has sparked outrage across Maharashtra, with calls for stricter protection for women working in public service.
In last 7 years, India reported more than 30,000 rape cases each year roughly one every 15 minutes. Some countries even maintained Level 2 travel advisories for India, warning travelers, especially women, to exercise increased caution due to rising violent crimes, including sexual assault.
