Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC), in collaboration with Pakistan Rangers, executed a major operation under the ‘Karachi’s Water for Karachi’s People’ initiative. The operation targeted illegal water connections and tankers in Bin Qasim Town, Malir District, which were siphoning off millions of gallons of water daily for agricultural use. KW&SC CEO Engineer Syed Salahuddin Ahmed, leading the operation, stated unequivocally, “Regardless of the influence or power of the water thieves, they will not be spared. Water belongs to the citizens, and we will not allow anyone to steal their rightful share.”

He further emphasized that numerous illegal hydrants and unauthorized connections have been demolished across the city with the support of Pakistan Rangers. The operation, spearheaded by Chief Security Officer KW&SC Colonel (Retd) Anjum Tauqeer Malik and other KW&SC staff, saw the dismantling of illegal connections to the Water Corporation’s main lines and the seizure of illegal tankers.

According to a KWSC spokesperson, these tankers had been diverting substantial amounts of water from the main supply lines meant for the citizens of Karachi. Ahmed highlighted that the crackdown on water theft is part of a broader, ongoing campaign to ensure that Karachi’s water supply reaches its intended recipients. “Under the ‘Karachi’s Water for Karachi’s People’ initiative, continuous and impartial operations against water thieves will be carried out citywide,” he said. The second phase of this historic crackdown aims to eliminate all illegal connections across Karachi, ensuring a fair and equitable distribution of water to the city’s residents.
