KUWAIT CITY – Kuwait has announced a public holiday on Thursday, August 27, to mark Eid Miladun Nabi, according to a Cabinet decision.
Eid Milad un Nabi commemorates the birth of Prophet Muhammad and is observed on 12 Rabi Al Awwal according to the Islamic calendar.
The holiday will cover ministries, government departments, public authorities and state institutions. Government offices are scheduled to resume operations on Sunday, August 30.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al Ahmad Al Sabah. With the Thursday holiday followed by the usual Friday and Saturday weekend, many government employees will have three consecutive days off.
The Cabinet said institutions requiring different working arrangements may determine their own schedules through the relevant authorities, while taking public interest into consideration.
Meanwhile, the Dubai Government Human Resources Department has announced Friday, August 28, as an official holiday for government departments, authorities and institutions in Dubai.
The Friday holiday, followed by the regular Saturday-Sunday weekend, will also provide eligible Dubai government employees with a three-day break.
However, employees working shifts or providing public-facing and essential services will not automatically receive the holiday. Their respective government entities will set working schedules based on operational requirements.
