Kurram tribal clashes claim two more lives

As there is no letup in the ongoing tribal clashes over land dispute in the Kurram tribal district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa two more people were killed and over dozen injured Monday taking the death toll to more around a dozen with more than fifty people receiving serious injuries

The tribal clashes in the Kurram tribal district erupted on Friday between two tribes over a community land dispute.

At least five persons were killed and 30 others sustained injuries when armed men belonging to Bohshera and Dandar tribes traded fire over the land dispute on Friday.

Subsequently, two more persons were killed and eight others sustained injuries when clashes again erupted between tribes in various areas of Kurram tribal district on Sunday. While two more persons succumbed to their injuries on Monday as the gunfight continued.

“At least ten people have been killed and over 50 injured during the last four days”. Police authorities said adding the district administration was making all out efforts to control the situation with the support of tribal elders and forces.

The district administration and police along with elders of the area had effected a ceasefire between the warring tribes and vacated their bunkers but clashes erupted in Khar Killay, Balishkhel, Pewar and Tari Mangal areas.

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Sajid Hussein Turi also arrived in the tribal district to broker a ceasefire between the warring sides but the locals said the sporadic fire continued.
