Karachi Press Club has strongly condemned the offensive language used by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur against journalists, particularly female journalists. The Karachi Press Club has demanded that Gandapur issue an immediate apology. Karachi Press Club’s governing body criticized Gandapur’s irresponsible and inappropriate remarks about journalists made during an Islamabad rally. The statement noted that Gandapur’s allegations and threats are unacceptable and have been made while journalists are already working under challenging conditions.
The KPC highlighted that journalists are performing their duties amidst severe constraints and such remarks endanger their safety and wellbeing. The organization called on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party to hold Gandapur accountable and for him to apologize to the journalistic community. The Karachi Press Club further stated that irresponsible statements from political leaders can incite aggression towards media workers and impact media freedom.
They argued that Gandapur’s behavior reflects a broader pattern within PTI of blaming media for political failures. Karachi Press Club also announced that they will address these offensive remarks through all available forums and will boycott Gandapur’s media coverage in Karachi until he apologizes.
