KP to be first province giving universal health coverage to all citizens

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Finance Taimur Saleem Jhagra has said by giving Sehat Insaf Card to every family in the province, Khyber Pakthunkhwa will become first province to give universal health coverage to all of its population.
Provision of Universal health services to the masses is going to be a game changer in the health sector of KP. It will put an end to the suffering of poor and marginalized people by allowing them to get timely treatment in standard hospitals with dignity.
He expressed these views while chairing a high level meeting regarding 100 percent coverage under Sehat Sahulat Programme Khyber Pakhtunkhwa here at Civil Secretariat Peshawar.
Besides Muhammad Yahya Akhunzada, Secretary Health KP, Ali Jan Khan, Advisor to Minister Finance, Dr. Shahid Yunis, Chief Health Sector Reforms Unit (HSRU), Director SHPI Khyber Pakhtu nkhwa Dr. Muhammad Riaz Tanoli and Deputy Director Dr. Ijaz Ahmad attended the meeting.
A brief presentation was made by Secretary Health to the meeting. The presentation was focused on the different options for hiring an insurance firm to cover 100% population. Meeting was told that government employees would also be included in this health insurance program. Another feature of the project is the inclusion of both public and private hospitals on the panel list and to ensure quality treatment, hospitals with adequate medical facilities would be empanelled only.
After detail discussion, it was decided that Health Department should go for rebidding to hire the insurance company and ask the bidding organizations to submit two proposals, one for premium based coverage and second for fund management system, for implementation of the Programme.
