PESHAWA R/ KARACHI Twenty patients of Coronavirus died with record single-day deaths in Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, i.e. eight and ten mortalities respectively on Sunday. About 514 new cases of Corona were confirmed taking the tally to 8,268. One hundred and sixty-seven patients have succumbed to the disease uptill now. “As many as ten more patients died from Covid-19 infections in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bringing the death toll to 60,” the advisor to Chief Minister, Ajmal Wazir told media Sunday afternoon. Ajmal Khan Wazir also confirmed that 62 new infections were reported from different parts of the province, taking the provincial tally to 1137. He, however, added that 226 corona infected patients have recovered from the pandemic. The Advisor informed that seven quarantine centers have been set up in Tribal District Khyber, for the people returning from Afghanistan, having capacity of about 1,500 people adding so far 713 people have come from Afghanistan, who have been quarantined in the centres. He said the returnees from Afghanistan will be placed first in quarantine centres followed by isolation and thereafter in high-dependency units. “Special arrangements have also been made for those coming from Afghanistan as well as from UAE,” Ajmal maintained. Wazir during a visit to inaugurate the Quarantine Center established in Tribal district Khyber, said that 319 people, including 108 men and 211 women have been placed in the Shah Kas Quarantine centre. Ajmal said that a quarantine centre established at Jamrud Fort, with the capacity of 300 people was being made a model isolation village with attached washrooms in each and every room and they are fully isolated. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the eight coronavirus fatalities that occurred during the past 24 hours was the highest number reported in the province in a single day. He said 182 fresh cases were onfirmed. Another 36 people in Pakistan have recovered from the coronavirus during the last 24 hours, according to the government’s official portal for tracking the spread of the disease in the country, taking the total to 1,868. “This is the highest number we have had since the virus claimed its first life on March 19. The total number of deaths account for 2.1 per cent of the cases in the province,” the chief minister said. Authorities in Sindh have withdrawn pillion riding relaxations given to women and personnel of law enforcement agencies as the city entered its 28th day of lockdown. Earlier, the authorities had given an exception to women and children, how ever, they w ill no longer be allowed as well. “Strict action will be taken against those breaking the rules,” police officials said. Giving the brieifing, the chief minister said that with the new cases, Sindh’s total had risen to 2,537 while total deaths had risen to 56. “In the last 24 hours, 33 people have recovered from coronavirus in Sindh,” he said. The Punjab healthcare department has reported 132 new cases, taking the province’s total tally to 3,686. The department noted that so far 41 people have died of the coronavirus in the province, whereas, 701 have recovered. A doctor, three nurses and five paramedics have tested positive for the virus at the Punjab Institute of Cardiology, a report said. People are requested to protect themselves by taking preventive measures, said the spokesperson of Punjab’s Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department in a statement. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar said 29 more patients in Lahore have tested negative and been discharged and 206 patients from Lahore have fully recovered, raising the total number of recoveries in the province to 684. Balochistan government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani has reported a surge in the province’s cases by 56. The total number of infected now stand at 432. All 56 of the new patients were infected locally. They are residents of Quetta, Mastung, Jafarabad, Chaman and Sibi. Seven more cases have been reported in Gilgit-Baltistan, according to the government’s official portal for tacking the spread of Covid-19 in the country, taking the total to 257. Earlier, two professors, four doctors and six nurses had been reported to have contracted the virus. One more death has been reported in Islamabad during the past 24 hours. A total of two deaths have been reported in the capital so far. Eight more cases have been reported in Islamabad Capital Territory over the past 24 hours. With the new cases, Islamabad’s tally has risen to 171. With one more person testing positive for coronavirus in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, the total number of Covid-19 patients has surged to 49 in the state.
