The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council has initiated a province-wide strike today Tuesday January 09 in response to a disturbing firing incident that occurred at the judicial complex, prompting concerns about the security of legal practitioners and the judiciary.
The Bar Council’s decision, announced entails a boycott of court proceedings at the principal seat of the Peshawar High Court and its adjoining districts. Lawyers in 11 districts, including Peshawar, have united in their resolve not to appear in courts until further notice.
Expressing deep regret over the firing incident, the Bar Council issued a strong condemnation of the accused individuals entering the judicial complex with weapons. Additionally, the Council denounced a separate attack in Bajaur, emphasizing the need for immediate and effective security measures.
The Bar Council is now calling upon the government to ensure fool-proof and robust security for all court premises. In the absence of adequate security measures, the Council has warned that the strike may be extended. Furthermore, the legal fraternity is urged to collaborate with security personnel during security checks to enhance overall safety. The legal community’s concerns regarding security have escalated following the recent incidents, and the Bar Council is determined to take a stand until concrete steps are taken to address the safety concerns of lawyers and the judiciary. The situation remains fluid as stakeholders await the government’s response to these pressing issues.
