KMC seizes illegally slaughtered meat

The Veterinary Department of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has seized 180 kg of meat, including 102 kg of heifers, 40 kg of goats and 38 kg of cows, in different areas of Karachi. The meat, which was later sent to the Alamgir Welfare Trust, was supervised by Senior Director Veterinary Jamil Farooqi, Dr. Taj and Dr. Shafiq. It should be noted that Administrator Karachi has been directed to expedite the sale of illegally slaughtered, substandard and pressured meat throughout the city to ensure the supply of meat to the citizens in accordance with the principles of hygiene, said Jamil Farooqi, Senior Director, Veterinary Department. He said that full scale action was being taken against illegal slaughter and pressurized meat and raids had been carried out on markets and other shops in different parts of Karachi which had yielded encouraging results. Hundreds of kilograms of meat were seized in these raids and sent to charities.
