Khawaja Nazimuddin’s 59th death anniversary today

The 59th death anniversary of former prime minister and Ex Governor General KhawajaNazimuddin will be observed tomorrow (Sunday).

Various political parties have scheduled different events in connection with death anniversary of former prime minister of the country. He served as second Governor General of Pakistan and second prime minister after Quaid e MillatLiaqat Ali Khan.

Born in Dacca, Bengal, KhawajaNazimuddin received his education from Dunstable Grammar School in England. He later studied at Aligarh Muslim University and Trinity Hall, Cambridge until the mid-1930s.

After returning to British India, he became involved in politics. Nazimuddin was initially the Education Minister, but climbed the ranks to become the chief minister of the province prior to independence.

KhawajaNazimuddin also became head of the Muslim League in Eastern India. Upon the formation of Pakistan, he became an important part of the early government.

After the death of Muhammad Ali Jinnah, he succeeded him as the governor general. The first Prime Minister of Pakistan Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in 1951 and Sir Khawaja stepped in to replace him.
