K-Electric has intensified its battle against electricity theft with a recent operation in Korangi, dismantling illegal underground cables and removing approximately 20,000 kilos of kunda wires. The crackdown, conducted with law enforcement support, targeted areas including Pak Town, Chakra Goth, Labour Square, Sector 34/2, and Ibrahim Hyderi.

This operation uncovered and removed illegal cables that were supplying an estimated 84,000 units of stolen electricity to 595 homes, 70 shops, 155 stalls, 18 water pumps, and two parks. Illegal connections, or “hooks,” bypass the utility’s safety protocols, creating significant risks, especially during adverse weather conditions like the current monsoon season.

KE’s ongoing efforts to combat electricity theft aim to minimize line losses and safeguard the power infrastructure.

In the last fiscal year, the utility filed 980 FIRs against those involved in theft. Since the beginning of this year, KE has executed 1,500 drives in Korangi, Landhi, and neighboring areas to address these issues, significantly reducing the illegal use of electricity. The utility emphasizes that theft and non-payment of bills are major factors affecting area loss profiles.
