Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah announced rapid progress on the Kalri Baghar (KB) Feeder project, a joint initiative of the Sindh and federal governments, designed to address Karachi’s chronic water shortages. With 40% completion expected by the end of 2025, the project is on track to conserve 510 cusecs of water, enough to meet the demands of Phase I of the K-IV water supply scheme. Speaking to the media after inspecting the canal lining near Jhirk, Shah revealed that the KB Feeder is projected to deliver an additional 260 million gallons of water daily (MGD) to Karachi upon completion next year, significantly easing the city’s water crisis. He stated,

“This project represents a pivotal step toward resolving Karachi’s water scarcity, with its enhancements directly benefiting ongoing initiatives like the K-IV water supply project. Murad Shah detailed the KB Feeder’s first phase, which focuses on canal lining and reinforcing embankments to optimize water flow. Alongside this, the Sindh government is investing Rs. 12.76 billion in the Hub Canal project to boost water capacity by December 2025.

These efforts include constructing new reservoirs and upgrading pumping stations to ensure efficient distribution throughout Karachi. The Chief Minister highlighted the Sindh government’s commitment to self-reliant development, noting the provincial funding of vital water infrastructure projects amidst limited federal assistance. Beyond water security, Shah underscored the government’s focus on urban infrastructure.

He pointed to the Malir Expressway, expected to be completed in 2025, as a game-changer for reducing commute times and improving connectivity in Karachi. The CM also announced plans to expand the BRT bus service across Sindh, enhancing public transportation for residents. Addressing ongoing protests, Shah reassured the public of the government’s commitment to resolving issues through dialogue and administrative action. He emphasized maintaining essential public services while engaging with protestors to address their concerns peacefully. As Karachi heads into the new year, Murad Shah expressed optimism about the city’s trajectory.

“The combined efforts in water infrastructure and urban development signal a brighter and more sustainable future for Karachi and Sindh,” he concluded, urging citizens to support government initiatives for a prosperous 2025.
