Pakistani poet and author Ahmed Farhad, who remained missing for two weeks, has been released after securing post arrest bail in case filed against him under terrorism charges.
Farhad, known for his rebellious writings, was granted bail from Azad Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Farhad went missing after his post against country’s powerful quarters. His wife accused spy agency of abducting him.
Farhad criticized state institutions online during protests in Azad Kashmir against inflation and raise in power tariffs. His lawyer confirmed the bail but mentioned a clerical error in the judgment keeping him in jail.
Farhad faced charges in Dhirkot Tehsil and Muzaffarabad, including under anti-terrorism acts.
Earlier, Islamabad High Court declared him a victim of enforced disappearances and instructed authorities to refer to him as a “missing person” until his safe return home.
