Karachi, Sindh weather update; more rains with few heavy falls likely

KARACHI – More intermittent rains with a few heavy falls are likely in Karachi and parts of Sindh on Sunday night and Monday.

Per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), low pressure in the lower tropospheric level lies over upper Sindh and surroundings. Strong Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea penetrate the southern & eastern parts of Pakistan. A westerly wave prevails over northwestern parts of the country.

Under these conditions, more intermittent rains are likely in Sukkur, Ghotki, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, Nowshehro Feroze, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Jacobabad, Karachi, Hyderabad, Jamshoro, Thatta, Badin, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Mohammad Khan, Tharparkar, Mithi, Mirpur. Khas, Umarkot and Sanghar on Sunday night. Heavy falls are likely at a few places in upper/central districts.

On Monday, mainly hot and humid weather is expected in most districts of the province. However, light rain-wind/thundershower is likely in Karachi, Jamshoro, Thatta and Badin.

Torrential rains will likely generate flash flooding in local nullahs/streams in Dadu on the 18th August. Downpours may cause urban flooding in low-lying areas of central/lower Sindh.

Karachi’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 31-33°C on Monday and Tuesday.

Hyderabad’s maximum temperature will likely remain between 33-35°C on Monday and 35-37°C on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, rains with isolated heavy falls occurred in parts of Sindh during the last 24 hours.

In Karachi, maximum temperature was recorded at 32°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 75 per cent.

In Hyderabad, maximum temperature was recorded at 32°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 69 per cent.

More monsoon rains predicted in Pakistan till August 18
