PML-Q Supremo and former prime minister Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain on Saturday said the actual issue faced by Karachi is of formulating policy about administrative issues, not authority.
Speaking at a meeting here on Saturday, Ch Shujaat said Karachi city passed through several periods and many people left after coming into power but had always fallen prey to political statements.
He asked Prime Minister Imran Khan to visit Karachi, determine the issues and check whether his directives were implemented or not. “Most people prefer sleight of hand over the issue of sanitation in Karachi. Don’t spread filth if you cannot clean the city,” the senior politician remarked. The city faced governor’s rule, remained under the watch of mayors and administrators but, unfortunately, nothing had been done except levelling allegations against each other. Everyone shifted the responsibility to others through accusations, always mourned about having no powers, he added. The PML-Q president said Karachi was drowned by rains every year but the statements issued only that it had been drowned by someone else.
Karachi faced many issues repeatedly, Shujaat said as he cited the problems related to rainwater and drinking water which, he added, had never been fixed. “Authority means money only here,” the PML-Q president remarked. He also mentioned that the army was requested for cleaning up the city every time the problem got out of hand. The prime minister is suggested here that he should make the army sweep when nothing could be achieved, said the seasoned politician.
