800 illegal hooks removed in Surjani town, Korangi industrial areaStaffReporterIn a concerted effort to tackle electricity theft, K-Electric, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, has removed 800 illegal connections  (kundas) in a recent operation targeting Surjani Town and the Korangi Industrial Area. The drive led to the removal of over 650 kg of illegal wires in Surjani Town and an additional 100 kg from Korangi Industrial Area.

The affected areas, ranging from North Karachi’s 4K Chowrangi to Yousuf Goth, Yaro Goth, and parts of Korangi like Mehran Town and Sharafi Goth, were collectively stealing an estimated 10,000 units of electricity daily. This theft, amounting to nearly 300,000 units monthly, disrupts the stability of the city’s power supply. K-Electric emphasized that such illegal connections bypass safety protocols, putting both the company’s infrastructure and the safety of residents at risk, particularly during the monsoon season when power lines are more vulnerable. The utility company highlighted the significant role that electricity theft plays in causing unscheduled load-shedding.

The theft and non-payment of bills influence the power distribution in high-loss areas, affecting reliable service delivery. K-Electric is urging local community leaders and residents to cooperate in addressing the growing issue of power theft. The company reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safer and more consistent power supply.
