The New Delhi police have begun investigation into a complaint filed against a research scholar of the Jawaharlal Nehru University for his comments on social media wherein he criticized Indian army and Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) for devising genocide of the Kashmiris.
The complainant, Tajinder Yadav, a social worker, filed an FIR claiming that the JNU student, Sajid Bin Sayed, posted on Twitter that the Indian army’s ‘anti-terrorist’ operations in terrorists’ in Kashmir were wrong and against India.
“We have received a written complaint and registered a case under sections 153 (provocation with intent to cause a riot) and 504 (intentionally insulting with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of the Indian Penal Code,” a senior police officer said.
In a tweet, Sajid Bin Sayed said: “Indian Military execute systematic genocide of Kashmiris which is devised by RSS. The BJP govt should stop their territorial greed and be ready to accept Kashmiris’ right to self-determination guaranteed by the UN. It’s high time to intervene in the issue by international bodies.”
In another tweet, he said: “Kashmir is the most militarised place in the globe where human rights violations mountain every other day. The government plots ethnic cleansing in Kashmir like illegal state Zionist Israel executes in Palestine but still they couldn’t succeed as they dream. #KashmiriLivesMatter.”
Sajid Bin Sayed is currently pursuing his PhD from the Centre for Social Medicine and Community Health. He is also the national president of the Campus Front of India (CFI), the student wing of the Popular Front of India. In a statement, the CFI said the FIR was a ploy to stifle dissent.—KMS
