The central leader of the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front, Raja Muzaffar, has appealed to Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad bin Salman to use his influence to save the life of illegally detained Kashmiri Hurriyat leader and JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik.

US-based Raja Muzaffar in a letter sent via Saudi Embassy in Washington appealed Muham-mad bin Salman that when on the special invitation of Indian Prime Minister he will be in New Delhi next month to use his clout to save the life Muhammad Yasin Malik who is serving life sentence in Indian jail.

In the letter, it has been said that Yasin Malik, in addition to meetings with the former prime ministers of India and Pakistan, during his visit to the United States, also met with the American authorities and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation for a peaceful solution to the Kashmir dispute. He also met with the Saudi authorities at its Secretariat. Modi government had arrested Yasin Malik before the repeal of Article 370 and Article 35A in August 2019 and false cases were leveled against him. The letter further states that the Modi government has appealed to the court to commute Yasin Malik’s life sentence to the death penalty. There is no expectation of justice for Yasin Malik. The life of the Kashmiri leader is in danger.

Referring to the meeting of the late King Faisal of Saudi Arabia with the late Kashmiri leader Sheikh Abdullah in Riyadh in 1963, Raja Muzaffar reminded in his letter that Sheikh Abdullah was arrested on his return to India. However, upon behind-the-scene efforts of the then Saudi King, India not only released Sheikh Abdullah, but sent him to Pakistan to negotiate with Pakistan in 1964.

Raja Muzaffar said that Kashmiri people who love Saudi Arabia very much hope that “your majesty will play a role in the release of the beloved leader of Kashmiris”.—KMS
