Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi has rescheduled its sit-in protest outside the Sindh Governor House to Saturday, August 3. The decision follows the martyrdom of Hamas leader Ismael Hania, leading the party to postpone the original date of the protest. The protest aims to address several key issues, including the demand for the withdrawal of agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs), the revocation of K-Electric’s license, a revision of the tax regime, and measures to combat inflation.

A high-level meeting of JI Karachi has outlined that protestors will gather at Khizra Mosque before marching to the Governor House.

Additionally, funeral prayers in absentia for Ismael Hania will be held across Karachi today. JI Karachi AmeerMunemZafar urged citizens from all sectors to join the protest, criticizing the current tax policies and agreements with IPPs. He claimed that the government has misled the public regarding capacity charges for IPPs, citing payments made to IPPs for unused electricity and increased fuel adjustment charges by K-Electric. Zafar also condemned plans to pay K-Electric in dollars, calling for a forensic audit of KE and IPPs’ accounts. He highlighted the broader socio-economic issues, including the large number of out-of-school children and the financial struggles of ordinary citizens, urging Karachiites to support JI’s efforts against these injustices.
