Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Karachi interim AmeerMunimZafar has urged immediate relief for Karachi residents facing power crises and demanded accountability from K-Electric (KE). Highlighting the significant loss of students due to up to 17 hours of load shedding, Zafar called for a forensic audit of KE’s accounts, citing a decline in power production since privatization. Despite a drastic increase in consumers, load shedding has worsened, with subsidiaries soaring by 9,000 percent.
The JI plans to hold a press conference outside KE headquarters on May 7 to unveil its future action plan and advocate for Karachiites in NEPRA hearings. Zafar also criticized the power regulator’s role in addressing Karachi’s plight. Additionally, he expressed concern over the University of Karachi’s situation and backed teachers’ demands, urging immediate financial aid for the institution. Zafar also addressed the K4 water supply project and the Safe City Project in light of President Asif Ali Zardari’s recent visit to Karachi.
