Acting Karachi Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and KMC Opposition Leader Saifuddin Advocate strongly criticized Mayor Murtaza Wahab during a press conference, accusing him of being unsettled by JI’s successful development projects in the city. “People chose Jamaat-e-Islami and gave it the mandate for the mayoral position, but Murtaza Wahab manipulated his way into office through underhanded tactics and bootlicking,” Saifuddin alleged.

He further stated that the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has failed to deliver, despite spending billions, leaving Karachi in ruins. Condemning the filing of FIRs against protesters for opening water tanker valves and labeling them as “uncivilized,” Saifuddin called it a disgraceful act.

He questioned, “Why weren’t FIRs filed against those responsible for breaking the 84-inch water pipeline during the construction of the BRT?” Saifuddin also accused Murtaza Wahab, as the chairman of Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board, of being directly responsible for the city’s ongoing water shortages, overflowing sewers, and heaps of garbage.

“The banners we put up criticizing his incompetence are funded by our party members’ contributions, something PPP cannot understand as they lack the spirit of sacrifice,” he said. Saifuddin also demanded an account of PPP’s 16 years of rule in Sindh, pointing out that Karachi has suffered due to biased policies and unfair distribution of funds. Highlighting JI’s commitment, he said, “Despite limited resources, JI’s town and union committee chairmen are delivering significant development projects. Compare our performance with PPP-controlled towns, and the truth will be evident.” Saifuddin said that JI will hold PPP accountable for the misuse of funds and will continue to fight for Karachi’s rightful share.
