A delegation of town chairmen and city council members, led by opposition leader Saifuddin Advocate, met with top officials of the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) to press for solutions to the ongoing water crisis in Karachi. The meeting aimed at urging the corporation to take measures to prevent further water shortages. Following the meeting, JI leaders held a press conference outside the KW&SC headquarters.

During the briefing, Saifuddin Advocate condemned the prolonged water crisis and criticized the government for filing cases against protesters who were voicing their concerns over water shortages. He also condemned Sindh Local Bodies Minister Saeed Ghani for his controversial remarks regarding the issue. Advocate accused the government of attempting to suppress the democratic rights of Karachi’s residents to protest against the injustices they are facing. He criticized the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government for discriminating against Karachiites, and blamed the local bodies minister, the mayor, and the water corporation for the ongoing water crisis in the city.

He also pointed to the mismanagement and corruption surrounding the K4 water supply project, which has faced delays for the past 19 years. Advocate noted that the water corporation had taken a $1.6 billion loan for the project and demanded that local elected representatives be involved in development work to ensure transparency. Furthermore, he called on the government to release development funds for all 246 union councils of Karachi, rather than only for the 46 UCs controlled by the PPP.

Earlier, the delegation met with Managing Director Salahuddin, Chief Operating Officer Asadullah, and other senior officials of the Water and Sewerage Corporation to discuss the matter.
