According to Data Reportal, an online platform that collects digital insights from around the world, Pakistan had over 186.9 million mobile connections as of 2022.

The number of mobile connections in Pakistan increased by 9.9 million (+5.6 percent) between 2021 and 2022. According to Digital Pakistan Policy, emerging digital technologies and innovative applications would enable cross-sector socio-economic development and transformation of economic activities, governance models, social interaction and achievement of sustainable development goals.

Pakistan is currently going through massive digital revolution. Pakistan’s total IT exports stood at $1.44 billion in FY2020, which increased to $2.1 billion in FY2021. It is expected that Pakistan’s IT exports would surpass $3 billion in fiscal year 2022.

Pakistan has targeted to commercially launch the most advance internet 5G by December 2022.

Pakistani youngsters are increasingly opting for earning digitally through various available platforms such as Amazon, Shopify, Fiverr, Upwork, and YouTube etc. Inflow of foreign exchange from these platforms is helping bridging balance of payment gap.

Digital Revolution in Pakistan has reached even far-flung areas of the country. For example, Thar Desert in Pakistan, which mostly remains in the news due to human suffering caused by drought, poverty, and unemployment, may come to be the next hub of IT in the country.
