ISLAMABAD – As the federal government is taking measures to exploit the full potential of the technology sector, the IT exports from Pakistan have surged to $1.2 billion during the first four months (July-October) of current fiscal year.

Data shared by the State Bank of Pakistan showed the IT exports amounted to $330 million in October, which is 13 percent higher than in September.

The IT sector has been exporting services worth approximately $290 million on average per month over the past one year.

With increase in IT exports, Pakistani companies have also expanded the number of their global clients.

Meanwhile, Ambassador of Qatar to Pakistan Ali Mubarak Ali Essa Al-Khater called on Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja on Tuesday. Matters of mutual interest, increasing cooperation in field of IT and Telecommunication, startups and cybersecurity were discussed in detail.

Shaza Fatima said that Pakistan and Qatar have deep friendly relations, adding that the two countries can jointly work in the field of IT and Telecommunication.

She said Pakistan wanted to further enhance ties with Qatar in the field of IT and Telecommunication. Shaza Fatima said Pakistan aspired to work with Qatar in cybersecurity field.

Signing of MoUs between the institutes of two countries in the field technology is vital, she said, adding that IT companies of both countries can do joint venture. She said exchange of students and startups between the two countries will strengthen relations.

Minister of State for IT Shaza Fatima urged Qatar to further facilitate Pakistan’s IT companies in getting visas and access to its market.

Ambassador of Qatar said that Qatar will fully cooperate with Pakistan in the field of IT and Telecommunication.
