Amid intense bombing, an Israeli military spokesperson Saturday ordered Gaza residents to evacuate certain neighbourhoods and also mentioned where they should flee to.

In a series of posts on X, formerly Twitter, the spokesperson used multiple maps annotated in Arabic, the official told people living in several neighbourhoods including Jabalia and Shujaiya to move to different areas.

Israel carried out deadly bombardments in Gaza for a second day on Saturday after a week-long truce with Hamas collapsed despite international calls for an extension.

Clouds of grey smoke from the strikes hung over Gaza, where the health ministry said nearly 200 people had been killed since the pause in hostilities expired early Friday.

Reuters footage from Nasser Hospital, the second largest in the Gaza strip, showed a steady stream of wounded being brought in as other people wept outside beside bodies of loved ones killed in strikes.

Aid groups and the United Nations say a small fraction of health facilities in the devastated enclave are still functioning and those are in no shape to handle a new wave of casualties.
