ISLAMABAD – US and Iran are expected to resume negotiations next week in Islamabad, according to reports by international media.
The discussions aim to address ongoing tensions and explore potential pathways toward ending conflict.
The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that both sides, along with mediators, are working on a 14-point memorandum of understanding (MoU) outlined on a single page.
The MoU would establish a framework for negotiations lasting one month, with the possibility of extension if progress is made.
Key issues reportedly under discussion include Iran’s nuclear program, reducing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, and transferring Iran’s highly enriched uranium to a third country.
However, significant challenges remain, particularly regarding the extent of sanctions relief, which continues to be a major sticking point.
The first round of talks in Islamabad took place on April 11, lasting nearly 21 hours, but ended without a formal agreement.
In related statements, US President Donald Trump commented on regional and international developments.
He indicated that Iran’s military has been neutralized and that the U.S. is closely monitoring Tehran’s response.
He also referenced a three-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine, expressing hope that it could be extended, and mentioned ongoing developments in Iraq and troop adjustments involving Germany and Poland.

Meanwhile, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian shared a post on social media platform X, stating: “The policy of the Islamic Republic of Iran is to expand friendly relations based on mutual respect and shared interests”.
“The policy of colonialism and exploitation will have no place in the future world,” he added.
