ISLAMABAD – Some traffic diversions are possible on various Islamabad roads today (20 May 2026) as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister has announced a press conference at the KP House in the federal capital at 2:00 pm.
On Tuesday night, residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi faced severe traffic gridlock on after authorities closed major routes, including Srinagar Highway near the toll plaza, due to the PTI rally.
It caused massive congestion toward Motorway Chowk. Commuters were left stranded in long, stationary queues for hours. Tensions escalated when police intercepted a large PTI convoy, reportedly led by the KP chief minister, near 26 Number Chungi.
The convoy, reportedly heading to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, was halted, sparking a tense confrontation between Afridi and law enforcement over the closures. Officials defended the blockades for security reasons, while critics labeled them heavy-handed and politically motivated, highlighting the disruption caused to the city’s daily traffic.
Later, the PTI ended the sit in after negotiations with police followed by the security officials reopening roads for traffic. At this time, the KP chief minister also announced holding a press conference at 2:00 pm today.
Islamabad Traffic Update Today
Sources said the Islamabad traffic police is expected to block the roads leading to the KP House. They added that red Zone access is likely to be restricted with 1 or 2 gates open.
