ISLAMABAD – Rains and gusty winds with snowfall over the hills are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Pakistan on Wednesday night and Thursday.
As per the Pakistan Meteorological department (PMD), a frontal weather system will likely enter western parts of Pakistan tonight and will persist in upper parts till January 06, 2025.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and partly cloudy weather is expected in most parts of Pakistan on Wednesday night. Light rain/snowfall is expected at isolated places in northern Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
Light rain/light snowfall may also occur in Murree, Galiyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Pothohar region. Moderate to dense fog will likely persist in most plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh.
On Thursday, more rain/snowfall is expected in the twin cities, north/western Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas.
Moderate to isolated heavy rain/snowfall is expected in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during evening/night. Moderate to dense fog is likely to persist in most plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh. Cold and partly cloudy weather is expected elsewhere in the country.
Moderate to heavy snowfall may cause road closure/slippery conditions in Murree, Galiyat, and Pakistan’s other tourist destinations.
Landslides/avalanche are also likely in the hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, Murree and Galiyat. Tourists are advised to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travelling. Rains are beneficial for the standing crops in Barani areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will remain between 01-03°C on Thursday and 02-04°C on Friday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will remain between 02-04°C on Thursday and 03-05°C on Friday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry prevailed in most parts and extremely cold in upper parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. Moderate to dense fog prevailed in plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh. Light rain/drizzle occurred at isolated places in north Balochistan.
Skardu and Gupis remained the coldest places in Pakistan where the temperature dropped 09°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Leh was recorded at -08°C, Gilgit -06°C, Astore -05°C, and Chitral and Hunza at -04°C.
In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 01°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 61 percent.
In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 02°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 35 percent.
