Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Pakistan weather; light rain, snowfall likely in upper parts

ISLAMABAD – Cold and partly cloudy to cloudy weather is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan on Monday night and Tuesday.

Frost is expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Potohar region and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

As per the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave also prevails over Kashmir and adjoining areas.

Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is likely in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and most parts of Pakistan and very cold in hilly areas on Monday night. However, partly cloudy weather with light rain/light snowfall may occur at isolated places in Kashmir and adjoining hilly areas. Smog/ fog (in patches) is likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

On Tuesday, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts and extremely cold in hilly areas. Frost is likely to occur at few places in Islamabad, Pothohar region and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning hours. Smog/ fog (in patches) is likely to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during morning/night hours.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 00-02°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 02-04°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of Pakistan during the last 24 hours. However, light rain/drizzle was recorded at a few places in Punjab.

Light snow recorded at few places in Murree, Galliyat and Kashmir. Smog/fog (in patches) persisted at few plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.

Leh remained the coldest place in Pakistan where the temperature dropped 09°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Skardu was recorded at -08°C, Gupis -07°C, Astore, Gilgit, Quetta -05°C, Bagrote, Kalam, Kalat -04°C, and Chitral, Dir, Hunza at -03°C.

In Islamabad, minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 62 percent.

In Rawalpindi, minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity in the evening was recorded at 57 percent.
