Islamabad Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Nasir Rizvi on Sunday announced that the accused of killing a Pakistan Air Force (PAF) officer was apprehended within nine hours of the incident.
Speaking at a press conference in the federal capital, he said police acted swiftly and arrested the suspect shortly after launching an investigation.
PAF Group Captain Asim Tariq lost his life while attempting to help a woman after noticing a dispute between her and the suspect. As the officer intervened to protect the woman, the suspect opened fire, fatally wounding him.
The IGP revealed that the suspect and the woman were colleagues at a cash-and-carry store in Islamabad’s G-6 sector. The woman worked as a representative for a cosmetics company, while the suspect was employed as a representative for a frozen food brand.
Providing details of the incident, Rizvi said the suspect, identified as Saad Abbasi, had picked up the woman, Nimrah, and wanted to take her to a park or another location. However, she refused and insisted on going to her workplace, where her sales stall was scheduled for an inspection.
He said the disagreement forced the suspect to stop his motorcycle on 9th Avenue, where the argument intensified.
At the same time, the PAF group captain was travelling towards Rawalpindi on an official assignment. While passing through the area, he noticed the suspect dragging the woman towards the motorcycle against her will and stopped to intervene, leading to the fatal shooting, the IGP said.
