Islamabad, Pakistan Weather: Scattered Monsoon Rains Expected

Scattered monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and parts of Pakistan on Monday night and Tuesday, with occasional breaks.

Synoptic Situation

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), moist currents from the Arabian Sea are continuously penetrating the upper parts of Pakistan. Moist currents from the Bay of Bengal are also expected to enter the northeastern parts from tonight. Meanwhile, a westerly wave is also affecting the upper parts of the country and is likely to affect the central parts from tomorrow.

Forecast

Under these conditions, scattered monsoon rains and gusty winds are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and parts of Punjab, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan on Monday night and Tuesday, with occasional breaks. Heavy falls and hailstorms are also expected at a few places during the forecast period.

Impacts

Heavy rains may cause landslides in vulnerable areas of upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galyat and Kashmir. Heavy rains may cause urban/flash flooding in Islamabad/Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Nowshera, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujranwala, Lahore and Faisalabad. Rains, windstorms & lightning may damage weak structures such as solar panels, electric poles, and billboards.

Temperature Outlook

Daytime temperatures in Islamabad are expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C on Tuesday and between 31°C and 33°C on Wednesday.

Daytime temperatures in Rawalpindi are expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Past Weather

Over the past 24 hours, hot and humid weather prevailed over most parts of the country. However, rain occurred at scattered places in northeast Punjab, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
