ISLAMABAD – The Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is expected to announce winter vacations 2024 for schools and colleges in Islamabad as it does so every year.

The federal authority is expected to declare the winter holidays for all educational institutions from December 21 to December 29 with schools reopening on December 30 as it used to give one-week holidays during the extreme cold weather.

It may also announce the holidays till December 31 with schools reopening on January 1 (Wednesday).

Furthermore, the authority would also revise the school timings after the winter vacation.

Last year, the directorate had announced winter vacations for all educational institutions from 25 December to 31 December.

Expected Schedule of Winter Holidays in Punjab

Schools and other educational institutions are closed for around two weeks every year in Punjab in wake of winter holidays in order to keep students safe from harsh weather conditions.

The Schools Education Department, as per the previous practice, used to announce the winter vacations in December, the last month of a calendar year, with schools reopening in January of the next year.

Mercury dropped 7 or 8 Celsius degree in Punjab, which is also blanketed by fog, in the month of December, making it difficult for school children to reach schools and attend classes.

The Punjab government is expected to announce winter vacation for schools, starting from December 21 (Saturday) while schools would open on Jan 1 (Wednesday).

However, the final decision about the holidays for all public and private schools will be taken by the education department after reviewing the weather condition.

Last year, the provincial government had announced the winter vacation from Dec 18 to 31. However, the holidays were later extended to January 9, 2024.
