ISLAMABAD – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to hold an important meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on July 25 in Washington.
The meeting will be held during his visit to Washington for a one-day trip during his ongoing tour of the United States.
This will mark the first official meeting between the two leaders. The detailed agenda of the meeting has not yet been made public. However, it is expected that Deputy Prime Minister Dar will express Pakistan’s appreciation for US President Donald Trump’s role in promoting peace in South Asia, particularly his efforts towards reducing tensions between Pakistan and India.
US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce has confirmed the scheduled meeting, stating that she will also be present during the discussions.
In a related development, Pakistan has formally nominated President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. The nomination letter, signed by Ishaq Dar, was sent to the Nobel Committee in Norway, highlighting President Trump’s significant contribution to regional stability, especially in relation to the long-standing Kashmir dispute. Trump had earlier acknowledged Kashmir as a major unresolved issue and offered to mediate, a move that was welcomed by Pakistan but declined by India.
Dar’s meeting with Rubio comes at a time of heightened tensions between Pakistan and India, with New Delhi having unilaterally suspended the Indus Waters Treaty and refrained from engaging in neutral-site negotiations.
Key topics, including Kashmir issue, bilateral trade, are expected to be discussed during the meeting between Dar and Rubio.
