Is government planning to announce additional holiday for Iqbal Day?

Iqbal Day Pakistan Pays Tribute To National Poet On Birth Anniversary

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan will observe the birth anniversary of its national poet, Allama Muhammad Iqbal, on Sunday, November 9, 2025, with great reverence and respect.

However, this year, there will be no additional government holiday as the day coincides with the regular weekly holiday on Sunday.

The federal government has included Iqbal Day in the official list of holidays for 2025. However, since the date falls on a Sunday, which is already a public holiday, there will be no separate leave granted for the occasion.

As a result, people will mark the day by observing their usual Sunday break while taking part in celebrations and activities dedicated to Iqbal’s legacy.

Across the country, various events will be organized to honor the life and work of Allama Iqbal. These will include seminars, poetry sessions, lectures, and educational programs focusing on his teachings and philosophical ideas. Universities, educational institutions, and both government and private organizations will host speech contests and special sittings on the theme of “Iqbal’s Thought,” with an emphasis on spreading his message of self-realization and unity to the younger generation.

Allama Muhammad Iqbal, born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot, is regarded as one of the greatest poets in Urdu and Persian literature. He was not only a philosopher, thinker, and poet but also a political visionary who dreamt of an independent homeland for Muslims in the subcontinent. His poetry inspired a sense of self-confidence, awakening, and solidarity among the youth, laying the foundation for the Pakistan movement.

Although there will be no additional holiday this year for Iqbal Day, the nation will pay tribute to the thinker of Pakistan with traditional zeal.
