DUBAI – It started with sudden security alert. UAE air-defence systems detected two ballistic missiles coming from Iran, sending tensions across the Gulf soaring. One missile fell into the sea and the other landed near the coast, with no casualties reported, but the incident has put the UAE on high alert and raised fresh fears of a wider regional escalation.

UAE Ministry of Defence said the two missiles were detected approaching the country. One reportedly fell into the sea, while the other landed on the ground near the coast.
Fortunately, there were no reported casualties or material damage. UAE authorities have not yet clarified whether the missiles were intercepted by the country’s air-defence systems or whether they fell before reaching their intended targets.
The missile scare came after UAE authorities issued a security alert to residents, urging people to remain cautious, take necessary precautions and follow official instructions. Emirati military said its forces remain on high alert and are fully prepared to respond to any threat, stressing that the country’s sovereignty, security and stability will be protected.
The latest incident adds to growing tensions between Iran and the UAE, with the Strait of Hormuz increasingly emerging as a major flashpoint.
UAE accused Iran of targeting two oil tankers belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) while they were passing through the strategic waterway. No injuries were reported in those incidents. A day later, the UAE claimed that another vessel had been targeted and called on Iran to immediately stop attacks in the Strait of Hormuz and fully reopen the vital maritime route.
The developments raised fresh concerns over the security of one of the world’s most important shipping and energy routes. Any prolonged disruption in the Strait of Hormuz could have consequences far beyond the region.
Iran has yet to issue an immediate official statement confirming or denying responsibility for the two missiles.
