TAMPA – US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its forces have completed “self-defense strikes” against Iran, June 9, at the Commander in Chief’s direction in response to downing of a US Army Apache helicopter.
CENTCOM forces struck Iranian air defense, ground control stations, and surveillance radar sites near the Strait of Hormuz with precision munitions from US Air Force and Navy fighter jets.
The operation was a proportional response to recent attacks on U.S. forces and international commercial ships transiting regional waters.
US forces remain vigilant and postured to defend against unjustified Iranian aggression.
Fresh reports from Iranian media indicated that additional explosions have been heard on Qeshm Island, adding to a string of incidents reported across the country’s southern region.
Iran’s state media said blast sounds were also reported in the strategic port city of Bandar Abbas, as well as on nearby Qeshm Island.
Earlier reports had described similar incidents in several other locations along Iran’s southern coastline, including Sirik and Jask.
The developments come amid escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington following a recent US military strike inside Iran. In response, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) signaled that retaliatory measures are being prepared.
A representative of the IRGC Aerospace Force stated that Iran would deliver a strong response to what it characterized as hostile actions by its adversaries. The remarks followed the latest US operation, which American officials described as a retaliatory measure.
The exchange of threats and military actions has intensified concerns over a broader confrontation between the two countries, with regional security remaining under close watch.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in a post on X wrote: “Despite its defeats on the battlefield, the U.S. opted to test our determination.
“Our Powerful Armed Forces will leave no attack or threat unanswered. Leave our region if you want to be safe. History of the Persian Gulf has many chapters on dire fates of intruding outsiders,” he said.
