Iran has set additional demands for reopening of the Strait of Hormuz including compensation for damage caused during the war.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that talks with Oman concerning the transit and administration of the strait were nearing completion.
At the same time, he set a series of preconditions which has complicated the issue.
Araghchi stressed that reopening Hormuz would depend on additional conditions, including compensation for violations of an agreement reached with the US in June.
Meanwhile, security chief Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr outlined several requirements for reopening Hormuz including an end to war and attacks against Iran and its allies in Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq.
According to Tasnim news agency, Zolghadr also called for the termination of a US naval blockade targeting Iran, the removal of sanctions, the unfreezing of Iranian assets held abroad and compensation for losses suffered during the conflict.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that Hormuz status was separate from Iran’s discussions with Oman.
It maintained that the opposing side would ultimately have to accept Iran’s conditions before the Strait of Hormuz could be reopened.
