ISLAMABAD – Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri called for robust media cooperation between the two neighboring nations, describing them as “brothers who stand together in times of need.”
He made these remarks during high-profile visit to headquarters of the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP). Meeting with APP Managing Director Muhammad Asim Khichi, Ambassador Amiri underscored the historic bond between Islamabad and Tehran, praising the Pakistani people for their affection toward Iran and recalling the two countries’ shared legacy of mutual support during difficult periods, including Pakistan’s courage during its war with India.
Iranian envoy sheds light on vast opportunities for expanded cooperation, pointing to joint military exercises, enhanced trade, and stronger cultural exchanges. He revealed that bilateral trade currently stands at $3.3 billion and expressed confidence that it could surge to an ambitious $10 billion annually in the coming years.
Placing media at the heart of diplomatic engagement, Ambassador Amiri stressed that direct news exchange between Iran’s Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) and APP is critical to counter misinformation, shape accurate narratives, and strengthen people-to-people ties between the two nations.
The envoy further drew attention to Iran’s efforts to improve regional connectivity, including the opening of new border crossings and the launch of direct flights between Islamabad and Tehran. He extended a formal invitation to the President of Pakistan to visit Iran, citing recent high-level diplomatic engagements as evidence of rapidly growing bilateral momentum.
APP Managing Director Muhammad Asim Khichi welcomed Iran’s continued support for Pakistan, particularly on the Palestine issue, and reaffirmed APP’s commitment to expanding collaboration in media, trade, and cultural sectors. He also highlighted the importance of religious tourism, sacred sites, and pilgrimage in further strengthening bilateral relations.
The meeting was attended by APP Executive Director Sabeen Usman Khattak, Director Marketing Ali Raza Alvi, Deputy Director Diplomatic and Global Affairs Mudassar Iqbal, and officials from the Iranian Embassy, including Hadi Gulraiz and Habib.
