US President Donald Trump has said that the agreement with Iran has been signed, though he did not clarify whether Tehran has signed the document as well.
Speaking in Evian-les-Bains alongside French President Emmanuel Macron, he said the deal was “completely signed” and claimed that the Strait of Hormuz was already partially reopened.
Trump stated that the waterway is expected to be fully operational by Friday. According to him, sanctions relief for Iran will depend on its compliance with the terms of the agreement, stressing that any easing of restrictions would be conditional on Tehran’s conduct.
Trump described the approach as behaviour-based, saying relief measures would begin only if Iran meets its obligations under the deal. He stated that the latest round of negotiations had been productive, claiming that relations with Iran had been relatively cooperative despite earlier military escalation.
Trump reiterated that Iran would not be permitted to develop nuclear weapons, adding that this commitment was part of the agreement and would be enforced through strict monitoring mechanisms. He further suggested that if the arrangement fails, the situation could revert to earlier tensions.
On the Iranian nuclear issue, Macron said that stocks of highly enriched uranium must be neutralised and placed under international supervision. He emphasised that such materials should either be removed or diluted and monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Macron also said that France and the United Kingdom will lead a multinational maritime mission aimed at ensuring the reopening and security of the Strait of Hormuz, involving around 20 countries.
He noted that France remains committed to supporting the initiative, although both France and the UK had previously declined earlier requests from the US to deploy military assets during the conflict.
