Int’l community urged to take notice of rising religious hatred in India

Leader of the House in the Senate Shahzad Waseem on Friday regretted the silence of international human rights over the rising religious hatred and extremism in India.

Alluding to the harassment of a Muslim girl wearing hijab in Karnataka, he said the worst form of Islamophobia is being seen in India which poses threat to peace and stability. He appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan’s efforts for drawing international attention on the issue of Islamophobia. He said a brave Muslim girl, who stood firm before a mob of Hindu far-right goons, had become a symbol of resistance against Hindu extremism.

Speaking on the floor of the House, he said Hindu extremists had made the life for Hijab-wearing students miserable in India. Appreciating the Muslim girl for not bowing down, he said the brave daughter faced the Hindu extremists with exemplary courage, which was being admired across the globe.

Responding to opposition senators, Shahzad Waseem said Pakistan wants cordial relations with all the countries including the United States. He categorically stated that Pakistan is not part of any camp.

He said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also viewed that Islamophobia was not acceptable at any cost. He said Russian President Vladimir Putin had also issued a statement in this regard, endorsing Pakistan’s point of view.

JI Senator Mushtaq said that the Hijab issue has proved today Quaid-e-Aza two nation theory right. Afia Siddique was in US jail and asked the government should raise the issue with US.

PPP Senator Sherry Rehman said that whatever is going on in India against Hijab was not good and the international community should take notice of it.

She also demanded of the government to present clear cut Pakistan foreign policy because there were confusion of policy between the statement of Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. She demanded to apprise the House over Pakistan foreign policy. Responding to her, leader of the House Waseem Shehzad said Pakistan foreign policy was clear and claimed that some opposition members wanted to create confusion. Former Chairman Senate Raza Rabbani asked the government that a whole day discussions required to explain over Balochistan issue.
